FAQs

ORDERS & SHIPPING

How will I know you received my order?

You will receive a confirmation email with all your order details and a confirmation number after your order is placed. Please ensure your email address is correct when placing your order. If you have not received your confirmation order, please check your spam and/or junk folders. If you need further assistance, please email me at josh@joshsbakery.com and I will be happy to assist you.

When do you ship your products?

All items are made from scratch and to order, so they are not able to be shipped the same day they are prepared. However, because I want you to have the best dessert experience, your order is shipped within 24 hours of baking.

Why is your processing time seven to 10 business days for a preorder?

I specialize in baked goods that are made from scratch and baked to order (not pre-made). Many orders can be prepped and baked within 24 to 48 hours of ordering. However, if several orders are received at once, I complete them in the order in which they are received. Also, to ensure maximum freshness upon arrival, orders are not shipped on the weekend. For those reasons, it may take seven to 10 business days to complete an order.

Do you take steps to ensure my order will arrive as fresh and as tasty as possible?

I take food safety very seriously! I use real ingredients, including dairy and fruit when preparing my baked goods. In fact, the whipped cream, buttercream icing, and toffee used in my recipes are all made by me in-house. Being scratch made, there are no preservatives, shelf stabilizers or artificial flavors.

Cupped cake and cheesecake jar orders are packed and shipped with ice packs to provide a level of temperature-control, which allows for maximum freshness during transit. It is important for your desserts to make it to you in the best shape possible.

Can I place an order but ship to a different location?

Yes! During the checkout process you can enter a shipping address that is different from the billing address. When entering the shipping address, please ensure the address is complete and accurate to avoid delivery delays.

Can I place a custom order for something that is not on the website?

Yes, it is possible to place a custom order for off-menu items such as gift baskets. If you would like to order a gift basket, please email your request to josh@joshsbakery.com.

Is it possible to mix and match items (i.e. two different flavors in a half dozen/dozen)?

No, not at this time.

Do you ship overseas?

Right now, shipping is available to the lower 48 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada.

Please note: Due to the longer transit times involved with shipments to Canada, desserts with fruit toppings are at risk of spoilage. So, unfortunately, I am unable to ship strawberry, blueberry, or cherry cheesecake jars to Canada at this time.

How will I know when my order has shipped?

You will receive an email with tracking information when your order has shipped. Please ensure that your email address and contact information are correct at checkout to avoid delayed or disrupted communication regarding your order.

How can I track my order after it ships?

Your shipping confirmation email will contain tracking information. Clicking on the tracking number will allow you to track your order online via the carrier’s tracking site. Please ensure your email address and contact information are correct at checkout.

My package is delayed, now what?

Josh’s Bakery is not responsible for packages once they are with the carrier en route to final destinations. We cannot anticipate or control carrier disruptions like inclement weather or package handling. Should you experience an issue with the delivery of your order, please contact josh@joshsbakery.com and I will attempt to assist you the best I can. Each issue is handled on a case-by-case basis.

How much advance notice do you need to place an order for an event (local customers only)?

I can generally accommodate small orders, like cookies or brownies with a 24 to 48 hour notice, depending on the volume of prepaid orders I have for that week and whether I will have to cut off orders.

Larger cakes or large orders of cheesecake jars and cupped cakes should be ordered at least 10 to 14 days in advance.  The best way to begin an event order is to email me at josh@joshsbakery.com and include details such as what item(s) you are interested in ordering; the date you would need it for; and what flavor(s) you would like. After I confirm the details of your order, you will need to make a 50% deposit to guarantee it. Your inquiry is not an official order until a 50% deposit is made.

What should I do if there is a problem with my order?

Reply to your order confirmation or email me at josh@joshsbakery.com to let me know what’s going on. Each issue is handled on a case-by-case basis, and I will do my best to make it right.

PRODUCTS

What are your desserts made of?

I use a variety of ingredients, including flour, sugar, eggs, heavy cream, butter, nuts (toppings), fruits, extracts, and liqueurs.

Do you offer any gluten free, dairy free, vegan, sugar free, or keto friendly items?

Currently, I do not offer any items that are gluten free, dairy free, vegan, sugar free, or keto friendly. If I ever develop any items in the future that I love and fit these standards, it will be announced on my social media platforms!

Do you offer nut free products?

Most of the sweets I make do not have nuts. If there are any nuts in a product, they are presented visibly on the item, or labeled with the type of nut that is in it. If you plan to place an order and you have a nut allergy, please make me aware at the time of the order.

Are there seeds in the strawberry and raspberry flavors?

Yes, there may be strawberry and raspberry seeds in some of the buttercreams, cakes, and toppings. This is because I use all natural products and include the use of real fruits in my baking.

What makes your desserts different from what I can buy at the store?

Josh’s Bakery is a from scratch bakery. As a from scratch bakery, my desserts are not mass produced in factories. Also, I do not use box cake mixes, so none of my desserts contain artificial flavors, preservatives, and shelf stabilizers. This improves the taste and quality of the desserts I make.

Your cake is denser than other cakes I have had, why is that?

All my cakes are made from scratch, therefore there are no preservatives or chemicals in the cake batter. Boxed cake mixes contain chemicals and heightened amounts of sugar to create a lighter and sweeter cake. Scratch made cakes are   naturally denser in consistency, but they are also more luscious and richer in flavor. Cake texture and flavor preference is highly subjective, but it is my hope that you truly enjoy your dessert experience.

I don’t like super sweet, store bought-tasting frosting. How is your frosting made?

All my buttercream is made from scratch and to order. I use a traditional American style buttercream, which means butter, sugar, and vanilla are the only ingredients in my basic buttercream frosting. I use fruits, extracts, and liqueurs to flavor the buttercream, depending on the order.

What is the best way to store my order once I receive it?

The shelf life can vary dramatically depending on the location’s temperature and humidity level. Because all desserts are scratch made with no preservatives, shelf stabilizers or artificial flavors, all items will stay fresh longer when refrigerated.

When refrigerating items, cover the exposed dessert with some plastic wrap so it does not dry out. Cupped cakes and cheesecake jars can be kept in their packaging in the fridge for a few days, but should be placed in the freezer if not consumed within a few days of arrival.

Here are general recommendations for shelf life and storage methods:

  •         Typical room temperature and average humidity levels – 24 hours*
  •         Refrigerator – 3 to 4 days
  •         Freezer – 3 to 4 weeks
* Cheesecake jars and desserts with fruit and/or whipped cream toppings must always be refrigerated.

POLICIES

What is your payment policy?

Pre-orders: Payments are made online at the time of ordering. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.

Event orders: A 50% deposit is due when the order is confirmed. The remaining balance is due at delivery.

What is your cancellation policy?

Any changes or cancellations must be made within 30 minutes of placing a preorder. Should you need to cancel your order and you are within that window, please either reply to your order confirmation email or email me at josh@joshsbakery.com to request cancellation of your order.
Please be aware that my production schedule is based when the order is placed, and last-minute cancellations cannot be accommodated due to the amount of planning and work that goes into each order prior to even baking.

Do you accept returns?

Given the perishable nature of the desserts, I am not able to accept returns. If you encounter a serious issue with your order, please email josh@joshsbakery.com and let me know what’s going on. I will do my best to make it right.

Do you offer refunds or replacements for online orders?

I cannot offer refunds on products that have shipped but may work with you on a store credit or product exchange. If you are unhappy with the quality of your order, please email me at josh@joshsbakery.com with your order number in the subject line within 24 hours of receipt of your order. Any complaint received over 72 hours after the order is delivered cannot be accommodated.

Emails should include a description of the issue and pictures so the problem can be properly assessed, and the best solution determined. If there is a clear problem with the dessert, I do apologize and will do my best to correct the error. Each issue is handled on an individual basis.

Josh’s Bakery does not offer refunds for delays caused by our shipping partners due to weather, mechanical error, strikes, natural disaster, inaccurate shipping information given, mistakes on the part of our shipping partners’ employees or similar reasons.

What if I don't like what I purchased?

All desserts are made fresh to order. Please understand flavor is subjective, so not liking the flavor you selected is not a basis for a refund.
Also, please bear in mind there is a possibility of a slight difference in appearance between the images on the website and your order. This is due to all desserts being handmade from scratch and although the recipe and baking process is consistent, there can be slight variations in appearance each time a dessert is made. Therefore, slight differences in the look of the dessert to the images on the website will not alone constitute a reason for a refund or replacement. If you encountered a quality issue with your order, please email josh@joshsbakery.com and let me know what’s going on. I will do our best to make it right.
